CARBON WARNING CAMPAIGN
(our latest project)
PRESS RELEASE - April 2nd, 2007 MCATS INTRODUCES A “CARBON WARNING” CAMPAIGN IN MILAN Carbon is a fact of life. In fact, life on earth couldn’t exist without it. But there is broad consensus that carbon-saturation in the atmosphere is a dangerous thing. Whatever you think about human responsibility for carbon-saturation, our culture generates a lot of carbon and much of it can be avoided. MCATS (Michigan Citizens Against Toxic Substances) has organized a campaign to educate the community and take action to do just that. Mark your calendars for three (3) events in April and see how you can do your part to cut down carbon-saturation locally AND globally.
To help us out or for more information, contact Rod Hill of Michigan Citizens Against Toxic Substances at 734 439-7379, or, rhill@provide.net MCATS has served the community since 1989 informing citizens on the hazards of toxic substances in the environment and taking actions to eliminate toxins. MCATS was originally formed to oppose the placement of the second largest hazardous waste dump in the country, two miles from the City of Milan, Michigan. MCATS is proud of our work, and this community, for protecting the environment and making sure that our future is governed by safe and sustainable practices in industry, commerce and simply living on earth. |
PRESS RELEASE - April 2nd, 2007 FREE TIRE PRESSURE CHECKS ARE PART OF MCATS CARBON WARNING CAMPAIGN Did you know that by simply making sure your tires are inflated to the right pressure, you can save gas and reduce the amount of carbon your car produces every time you drive? Carbon-saturation in the atmosphere is a dangerous thing. MCATS (Michigan Citizens Against Toxic Substances) has organized a TIRE PRESSURE CHECK event to help citizens save gas, save money and save the earth at the same time. On April 14th, MCATS will be out at the auto service stations listed below to check your vehicle tire pressures. Stop in and visit with your old friends in MCATS between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. and get your tires ready for the summer driving season. Come to:
We also invite you to join us on April 16th for a free showing of “An Inconvenient Truth” to learn what carbon-saturation is doing to our world and how citizens can make a difference in reducing this hazard. And, on April 21th, you can help us plant trees in the parks and school grounds around Milan. We’ll be planting for the future of this community and helping insure that our children have a green and healthy world to grow up in. PRESS RELEASE - April 9th, 2007 MCATS CARBON WARNING CAMPAIGN CONFRONTS AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH The truth of the matter is that carbon-saturation in the atmosphere is a dangerous thing and whatever you think about human responsibility for carbon-saturation, our culture generates a lot of carbon and much of it can be avoided. That inconvenient truth is the subject of a groundbreaking movie that documents what carbon-saturation is doing to our world and how citizens can help fix it. MCATS (Michigan Citizens Against Toxic Substances) invites you to join us on April 16th for a free showing of “An Inconvenient Truth” the awardwinning movie, at the Campfire Restaurant. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. and there will be refreshments, and even some door prizes. And, as always, the hospitality of the Campfire is the greatest. Before you see the movie though, come to our tire pressure check on April 14th, MCATS will be out at the auto service stations listed below between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to check your vehicle tire pressures. The correct tire pressure saves you gas and reduces the carbon produced every time you drive. Come to:
And, after the movie, on April 21th, you can help us plant trees in the parks and school grounds around Milan. Join us in planting for the future of this community and help insure that our children will have a green and healthy world to grow up in. PRESS RELEASE - April 16th, 2007 MCATS TO PLANT TREES IN RESPONSE TO A GLOBAL CARBON WARNING Carbon-saturation in the atmosphere is causing radical climate change all over the world and the trend is rising with no end in sight. We need to reduce the amount of carbon we produce, pull carbon out of the atmosphere, and put it where it can do the most good. One of the easiest ways to do that is by planting trees! MCATS (Michigan Citizens Against Toxic Substances) will be planting over 300 trees in the parks and school grounds around Milan. This event is the climax of our campaign to educate and organize this community against the dangers of carbon-saturation. Help us celebrate Earth Day at the Wilson Park parking lot 10 a.m. on April 21st (rain date, April 22nd, 1 p.m.) to get your hands dirty and help insure that children will have a green and healthy world to grow up in. PRESS RELEASE - April 23rd, 2007 MCATS CARBON WARNING CAMPAIGN STRENGTHENS COMMUNITY Confronting the dangers of carbon-saturation, MCATS (Michigan Citizens Against Toxic Substances) has waged a campaign to educate and take action to reduce the amount of carbon that is building up in the atmosphere. The three events helped citizens reduce fuel consumption and the amount of carbon produced by their vehicles. MCATS also sponsored a showing of the documentary, “An Inconvenient Truth” in partnership with the Ecology Center, and wrapped up with a public tree planting in the City of Milan and the Milan School District. “These events were designed to help people understand that carbon saturation is a danger to all of us.” said, Rod Hill, the event coordinator. “And, more importantly, it’s a danger that we can confront and act against.” “MCATS has a history of empowering citizens to action,” said Liz Waffle, a long-time MCATS activist. “We have taken on a lot of environmental threats over the years, and we’ve been very successful at defeating them”. “I’m very proud of the success of this campaign and want to thank all the citizens that took the time to participate.” Jerry Renning, MCATS president added, “I especially want to thank the Campfire Restaurant, Ivan’s Standard, Mullins Auto, and … for their help in making this project such a success.” “MCATS has always gotten great support in this community and this is why, by working together, we’ve always been successful.” To help us out or for more information, contact Rod Hill of Michigan Citizens Against Toxic Substances at 734 439-7379, or, rhill@provide.net MCATS has served the community since 1989 informing citizens on the hazards of toxic substances in the environment and taking actions to eliminate toxins.
